For several years now, the LOBE has been working to increase the presence of performance art in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Whether receiving artists from all areas of performance discipline, organizing or hosting workshops, the Center has undoubtedly also contributed to the development of promising artistic exchanges, as well as helping to ask and theorize questions about the various issues related to this field.
The Biennial Event Art Nomade : Rencontre internationale d’art performance (from the curatorial work of Francis O’Shaughnnesy), presented at the LOBE in 2007 and 2009, was an occasion of creating new meshes and strongly increase the influence of the regional artistic community in this area of work. On this occasion, several Quebec artists were able to bring together their practices with world-class artists from several continents.
On the other hand, the center received over the years a lot of performers curated by the RIAP (Rencontre Internationale d’Art Performance), biennial event organized by the artist-run center Le Lieu de Québec. In parallel with the performance nights and satellite activities, several conferences were presented during these gatherings, allowing the public to become better acquainted with various notions of performance art. Once again, artists from other provinces and countries bring new ideas and perspectives.
